In December 2011, ERA moved into a brand new building in Golden, Colorado. Located in the Coors Tech Center, the new facility is more than double the size of ERA’s former space and includes 60% more lab space than the company’s Arvada facility, ERA’s home for 11 years.
ERA President, Carl Craig, and the company’s Director of Operations, David Kilhefner, a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, worked with the building's contractor on the design of the facility. Guided by the principles of lean manufacturing, the laboratory space—25,000 square feet of dedicated space—was designed to maximize value and reduce waste in the manufacturing of ERA’s PT and CRM products.
In addition, Kilhefner conducted intensive value stream mapping to ensure timely and optimal flow of materials and inventory control—from receipt of raw materials, to product manufacturing, to validation and verification of standards, to shipping of finished product.
For ERA, the new facility, particularly the much larger lab space, has alleviated many of the challenges that companies experience as they grow and expand—lack of space to operate with optimal efficiency.
Kilhefner said of the new facility, “Our new facility gives us the space to be even more deliberate and dedicated to quality. ERA understands that product quality can never be compromised and this belief and focus permeates the entire ERA organization.”
