Unlike in recent years when the EPA has added analytes to the study, this year they have changed the program’s opening
date. While the study has traditionally started in early June, the kick-off for DMR-QA 28 has been advanced to
May 1, 2008. This date represents the deadline by which permittees, and the laboratories that service them, must have
their PT samples ordered.
Additionally, the date that EPA requires recipients of the DMR-QA announcement letter to
affirm receipt will be earlier than in past years.
While it may seem an added burden that orders must be placed sooner than in years past, there is also an advantage for
the DMR-QA 28 study participants. As the closing date for the study is still set for the end of August, the permittees
will have approximately four extra weeks to complete this year’s study. This was EPA’s intent as they received multiple
comments from permittees requesting extra time to complete the DMR-QA study. So, if you are a DMR-QA veteran, or you
are new to the game but suspect that you might be affected, follow these easy action items to stay ahead of the curve:

Order your DMR-QA 28 samples before May 1, 2008.

Make sure your contract labs order on time and from the same provider as you.

Watch for the DMR-QA announcement letter earlier than normal.
Send your receipt verification form into EPA as soon as you receive the letter.

Watch for your PT samples and note the study-specific closing date.

Coordinate with all of your labs to receive their data prior to the closing date(s).

Submit data for all labs before the closing date.

Be sure to submit forms (paper or electronic) associating all of your labs to your permit.
